Sunday Link Love and Announcements!
Posted on January 5th, 2009 by Jim under Announcements
It’s the first Sunday Link Love of 2009!
ARE YOU READY?!?!
Haha, okay… maybe not so intense this go-round, but we do have some great articles from the week that you should definitely check out. The markets had a fantastic week to lead into and kick off 2009… so everything is a bit more optimistic for the time being. Looks like everyone had a great New Years, so let’s get back into action with a look back on the best articles from the week ending January 3rd, 2008:
- Mason World – Adding Google Custom Search to your WordPress Blog
- Pot Pie Girl – Keyword Marketing: How I Do It
- Garry Conn – Joel Comm Makes Money Online with Farts
- CopyBlogger – 47 Ways to Help You Keep your New Years Resolutions
- Uber Affiliate – How I Went from $6 to $10,000 a Day in One Month
First off, we have my arch-rival Mark from MasonWorld.com. He had a terrible great article on adding a custom Google search onto your blog, and make money with it just like with AdSense. Pot Pie Girl runs us through the methods that she uses to research keywords, a very in-depth and interesting look at marketing. Garry Conn talks about an interesting story… the best selling iPhone App (made by Joel Comm)… a fart machine? Copy Blogger gets us a nice bible of posts from the year that can advance your blog performance. Finally, Uber Affiliate rings in the new year with a blockbuster profit report you have to see to believe.
Stock Market Update
Ringing in the new year indeed! The U.S. markets SURGED 6.8% for the week, in a colossal show of renewed hope for 2009. While the S&P 500 Index was down 38.5% for 2008, it’s in the black for the year of 2009 so far…
so maybe we have turned a new leaf in investing in the stock market, eh?
Not So Fast!
WARNING: Don’t be convinced and filled with confidence just because the market has been up the past few days. I would be very surprised if the rally continued past 9500 on the Dow Jones. This is the time of the year that a lot of new players get into the game and start to throw their weight around when they see things go up. This is the time when hedge funds smack individual investors down with an iron fist and effectively take your money. Let’s not forget about the extremely low trading volume that has existed under virtually all of the market rallies. Also, remember “Alt-A” loans? Those nice teaser rates that many people took? The resets on Alt-A loans could completely crush optimism once people default on loans they foolishly thought they could cover on. There are many problems out there… and while I would pull the trigger soon… caution is key!
Blogosphere Update
This week in the blogging world was plagued with posts devoted for the New Years, with laundry lists of “things I’ve learned” and “setting goals for 2009″ blog posts going around. Now, there is nothing wrong with a little look back on 2008… or even a
game plan for 2009 to get your motivation straight… it just makes for a less exciting blogging environment overall.
My buddy Derek hosted another great radio show with Click Consultants this week, Max from MoneyBites.com was back to co-host the show. It was all about niches this week, and has a podcast version online so you can go back an listen if you missed it.
Are the “make money online” blogging mid-caps slowing down!? Any by mid-capitalization (mid-cap), I mean those blogs that aren’t small, and aren’t big. Take a look at JohnCow.com, IMWithJoe.com, TylerCruz.com and TheUniversityKid.com! These are blogs that used to update day by day without fail… but haven’t been posting more than twice a week over the past few weeks! I really can’t explain this phenomena, as it is more than likely just utter boredom, so we’ll have to keep a tab on that.
The Week Ahead
Oh man… I now have a backlog of 9 posts that I need to write, beautify and publish on my idea board. Some great useful stuff like link workarounds, earnings reviews and even a rant. Stay tuned this week, because we’ve got a lot to go over! This is one blogger that won’t be shutting down production in a “slump” of any sort… so stay bullish on the net!

Jennifer from PotPieGirl.com is awesome. Her article was spot on and deserves a ton of credit and recognition. I am very glad that you included that in this week’s Sunday Link Love round up. Of course, thank you for including my post about Joel Comm as well. Needless to say, that is a very interesting story as well.
Thanks Garry, glad you enjoyed the love. I recently came across Pot Pie Girl’s blog and I really love the original and well-written content. It’s a great blog that will be featured here in the future without a doubt
Hello Jim and Garry,
This is the first time I am seeing two of the most popular online money making bloggers commenting on each other and that too so positively. Despite being competitors you both are very honest to each other. Jim I would like to thank you for mentioning Garry’s post up there as I am his big fan and Garry, Thanks to you too for appreciating Jim as I am Jim’s big fan.
I too like Jennifer of PotPieGirl a lot. I just read her guest post about Squidoo on GarryConn and I must say she is a great writer. Isn’t she?

I also recently found Pot Pie Girl’s blog and have to say it is brilliant! The article she wrote was brilliant.
Nice link Love this week Jim.
I think I can safely say that I haven’t done any 2008 updates or even goals for 2009 for that matter. I don’t believe in New Years resolutions or, much to my companies disgust, business plans. Sure that sort of crap may make people feel better about themselves or perhaps it gives them a goal to aim for, but I have more important things to do and that is to get on with business and life in general.
Nice all-around update. I especially like that you mentioned the stock market… That little ’surge’ is not enough to restore my faith.
Good links.
Hopefully one day one of my post will qualify for some Sunday link love. I will be checking back every day to see if I make it on the list.
Caution not only now but whenever you contemplate investments in equity is advisable. Just see what happened when caution was thrown out of the window!
Man.. 24 hours is just not enough for blogging and reading blogs.. Help pls!
Thanks for the link love, brother.
Great article, by the way. I agree with you re:the market. We need to get past the inauguration and see what happens.
HOWEVER, historically periods of negative equity in the market (there have only been a few as you know) are followed by enormous upsurges as the equity rushes back in (like a tsunami). I agree that we are not seeing that yet, but I am expecting it late in 2Q. You read it here first.
Regards,
Mark

Hmm… don’t take this the wrong way Mark, but I do not think that is entirely correct. Historically, the market has hit a bottom about 3 months AFTER a recession has been declared. However, there has been no notable “surges” of the market as you have claimed. Typically the best recoveries are prolonged and gradual (very gradual) increases.
I enjoyed all the articles. They are definitely some good ones and you are always giving out link love.
I am new in this community and would like to discover more knowledge about Internet Marketing, as I seen the comments from Ben, Garry all those names are familiar since I met them from other social bookmarking.Great articles keep up the good work.
Nice blogosphere round up. I’m happy to here you aren’t going to be slowing down. I’ve been noticing that about those bloggers as well. It seems like more and more bloggers are slowing down to the once or twice a week posting. Now’s the time to get a jump up on the competition and start posting daily.
Jim -
